ABSTRACT

This exercise is aimed at developing the professional’s ability to conduct solution-focused talk about clients’ needs, goals, and possibilities while taking into consideration clients’ readiness to talk about particular topics or to do something with her/his life. At the beginning of the exercise, we divide the group into four smaller teams. Each team works on one of the topics listed below by putting a short list on the flip chart:

In what way can we ask and talk about clients’ needs?

In what way can we ask and talk about clients’ goals?

In what way can we ask and talk about clients’ possibilities (resources)?

What observable factors can tell you during the talk that the client is ready to talk with you as a therapist about particular topics, and what are the signs from the client’s side that she/he is not ready to do so?
