ABSTRACT

Since the early days of the identification of the acquired immunodeficiency virus, when the gay and medical communities struggled to understand terms such as AIDS-related complex (ARC) and gay-related immune deficiency (GRID), forums for people to share their concerns over AIDSrelated issues have been widely utilized. These support group meetings have served to provide a safe space for people to explore their fears, reduce the isolation often associated with confusion and anxiety, share information, and provide support through illness and death.
