ABSTRACT
It is an unfortunate reality of child welfare that even in death there is paperwork, but it was in this process that I found what could perhaps be the lesson in this sad story. When I called the New York State Department of Social Services office to inform them of Lawrence's death, I spoke to a supervisor, one who has never been known to give out complements, and she said, "Well , Lawrence may not have come to your program in the right way, but it sounds like he came to the right place."
