ABSTRACT
This chapter deals with the mutual antagonism which developed between China and Japan. Their antagonism fostered patriotic sentiment and a vivid consciousness of national solidarity within both countries. This in turn triggered off a war in which both sides were determined to fight until the bitter end, no matter what the consequences.
