ABSTRACT

Latinos 1 represent the largest growing ethnic minority group in the United States whose ethnic heritages have origins in Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba, the Caribbean, Central America, and South America. According to the 1990 U.S. Census Bureau, there were over 22 million Latinos living in the United States. The 2000 Census data reported this population increased to over 35 million, exceeding population growth predictions by 5 years. These numbers do not sufficiently account for the many undocumented workers and their family members who have immigrated to this country.
