ABSTRACT

China and India are the world’s two most populous countries. They are the two largest countries of Asia and are neighbours. They have impressively fast growing economies. There is every likelihood of their becoming the largest and third largest global economies, respectively, in the next two or three decades. A partnership relationship between these two countries is virtually an imperative for peace and prosperity not only for the 2 billion plus people of China and India but for the people of Asia as a whole and indeed the world. As a diplomatic practitioner for the past four decades, it is my ardent desire that this is what the relationship should evolve into. This is an objective that the governments of the two countries must consciously work at to achieve. But is it likely to happen? My article seeks to answer this question.
