ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we will consider the extent of rape in U.S. society as a pressing human rights concern. When doing so, we will place rape and violence against women within a larger context of gender inequality in the United States, making the argument that we live in a sexist, or patriarchal society. Finally, we will consider what

women and men are doing in order to promote and achieve women’s rights, as basic human rights, across the country.
