ABSTRACT

Gillie Bolton (2001: 15) used the metaphor of ‘the hawk in your mind constantly circling over your head watching and advising on your actions – while you are practising’ to elaborate the process of reflection-in-action described by Donald Schön (1987). The process of supervision, when the focus is reflection-on-action, might be regarded as one in which the hawk in your supervisor’s mind circles overhead, watching, advising and, if it could, enquiring into your thinking, feelings and actions.
