Problems of Representation in Heuristic Problem Solving: Related Issues in the Development of Expert Systems

Problem solving is the art of using knowledge effectively for the attainment of desired goals. A fundamental question in problem solving research is how knowledge is transformed into effective solution-construction action. To get some insight into this question, we must examine it in the context of well-defined classes of problem solving procedures (i.e., in terms of particular problem solving schemas).
