Problems of Representation in Heuristic Problem Solving: Related Issues in the Development of Expert Systems

Problem solving is the art o f using knowledge effectively for the attainment of desired goals. A fundamental question in problem solving research is how knowledge is transformed into effective solution-construction action. To get some insight into this question, we must examine it in the context o f well-defined classes o f problem solving procedures ( i .e . , in terms of particular problem solv­ ing schemas).
