ABSTRACT

However, research demands do make it necessary to employ some sort of quantifiable technique, particularly when two or more groups are to be compared with respect to projected material. Dr. E . H . Rodnick and I thus selected these themas on the basis of our experience with the T A T and we found that they fell into five basic categories. These include: (1) loss of life; (2) physical aggression; (3) non-physical aggression; (4) internal emotional stress; and (5) positive themas. By tabulating the percentage of the total number of scored themas which fell into each of these categories, it was possible to construct individual and group profiles and the profiles of groups could then be compared. Since the study in which this schema was first used involved a study of reactions to frustration, the heavy emphasis upon the handling of aggressivity becomes understandable.
