ABSTRACT

Three British Columns invade Afghanistan.— No answer to the ultimatum of the Viceroy was received from Kabul owing, as it was subsequently proved, to delay in trans mission. Accordingly, upon the expiration of the time limit, three columns, whose objectives were Kandahar, Kabul by the Kurram Valley and also by the Khaibar route under Sir Donald Stewart, Sir Frederick Roberts and Sir Sam Browne respectively, marched across the frontiers of Afghanistan.1
