ABSTRACT

The Early Tears of Abdur Rahman.— Abdur Rahman, “ the Slave of the M erciful,” destined to rank as the great Amir, who welded the loose congeries of turbulent tribes into a nation and ruled with a rod of steel over a united Afghanistan, had a chequered career, which is well worth narrating, if only as demonstrating how his character was strengthened by constant changes o f fortune, and hardened on the anvil of adversity.1
