ABSTRACT

The Five-Day Speech of Amanulla.— Upon his safe return to Kabul from his long journey, King Amanulla delivered a speech which lasted for five days. It con tained a full narrative of his tour in Europe, Turkey and Persia, and referred with pride to the treaties which had been signed with many countries; it continued with an account of the impressions he had formed and concluded with a detailed outline of the policy he intended the Afghan nation to adopt. It was, indeed, a Homeric speech, which ended with the King embracing a soldier, an official, a civilian and a student as representatives of his subjects.
