ABSTRACT

Every organization is concerned with the quality of its managers. Irrespective of whether the organization operates a strong or weak internal labour market for its workforce (see Chapter 2), there is always a desire for som e continuity in management, therefore, to a degree, companies always operate a strong internal labour market for managers. This means that while recruitment from the external labour market is used, it runs alongside a system of internal promotion. To an extent, all organizations are dependent on a group of aspirants to guarantee continu ity of its management functions.
