ABSTRACT
On 22 August 1939, the day before the signature of the Nazi-Soviet Pact, Hitler summoned his military commanders to the Berghof, his mountain retreat near Berchtesgaden, and gave them a survey of the current situation. No official minutes were issued, but notes were taken unofficially by Admiral Canaris, the head of the Counter-Intelligence Service, of which the following is an extract.
