ABSTRACT

In the introduction to this book, we asked, ‘What is education studies?’ Even now, you may not be able to give a simple, one-sentence answer to that question, but we do hope that Exploring Education Studies has provided you with an informed understanding of the wide range of issues bound up in the academic study of education. Now that you have read the book, it is worth taking some time to reflect upon some of the major themes which have emerged, and which we hope you will take away with you. While these will very probably include the core disciplines of history, philosophy, psychology and sociology, within this book we have also added new dimensions which we think likely to feature in future debates about education.
