ABSTRACT

In primary schools what we teach in the art curriculum is underpinned by the requirements of the statutory curriculum. Schools interpret them in the context of the resources available locally; the expertise in the school and the interests of the children. This results in common features across schools but variations as well. If you are a student visiting a range of schools on placements these similarities and differences may be more apparent to you than if you are part of the staff working in the same school over a sustained period.
