ABSTRACT
The most significant of these scientists was Galileo Galilei (1564-1642). With the help of the newly invented telescope, Galileo was able to provide a persuasive argument against the established view and in favour of Copernicus’ heliocentric universe. Galileo established the possibility of challenging and improving traditional views. This was the birth of modern science (see Chapter 7).
