ABSTRACT

Al concerns the loads imposed on the building and its parts and requires that they shall be so constructed that they can safely withstand the combined wind, dead and imposed loads, chimneys are subjected to wind loads and so are covered by this regulation; B3 refers, very briefly, to flues in connection with compartment walls and requires that the construction shall inhibit the spread of fire; J1 is concerned that there is an adequate supply of air to an appliance for combustion and for the efficient working of any flue pipe or chimney; J2 states that heat producing appliances should have adequate provision for the discharge of the products of combustion to the outside air; and J3 requires that heat producing appliances and flue pipes should be so installed, and fireplaces and chimneys so constructed, as to reduce to a reasonable level the risk of the building catching fire in consequence of their use.
