ABSTRACT
The legislation Alexander II ratified on 19 February 1861 was lengthy – around 360 pages of printed text – and very complicated, as befitted the scale and complexity of the task. A shorter Proclamation [ Doc. 19 ], which introduced the reform and summarized some of its main points, was prepared for general consumption.
