ABSTRACT
In the 1990s three main themes dominated Greek politics: the necessity of adapting to the momentous changes in the former communist states to the north; the need to discipline the economy sufficiently to conform with the standards required for full integration within European structures; and, inevitably and depressingly, relations with Turkey.
