ABSTRACT
This bibliography aims to guide the reader towards some of the most important books and articles which have been published in recent years as well as to some of the older literature. Space does not permit an exhaustive bibliography, particularly of journal articles. Annual bibliographies of publications are produced in Scottish Economic and Social History and Scottish Historical Review. These journals also review recent books while SESH lists recently completed theses. Together they provide a good start for a more detailed literature search.
