ABSTRACT

This chapter uses the case of international human rights to explore problems of order, justice and change in world politics. It focuses particularly on three questions. First, what does the ‘human rights problem’ tell us about the relationship between power, order and justice in the changing world arena? Second, in dealing with the ‘human rights problem’, what roles are played by international law, international institutions and international regimes? Finally, what does a study of the ‘human rights problem’ tell us about ‘conservative’, ‘reformist’ and ‘radical’ perspectives on world politics?
