ABSTRACT

Interrogate the concept of race and show how a belief in this idea has led to biological and cultural expressions of racism.

Consider the imperial relationship between geography and race.

Investigate how social and cultural geographies of race came to emphasise the social construction of race categories and the power of racism.

Discuss urban and rural forms of racism.

Consider the role of whiteness and anti-racist geographies in the discipline.
