First publ. DP, 28 May 1864; repr. DP², 1865, 1868, 1880, 1888. The MS, part of the printer’s copy for DP, is at Morgan. It is a clean copy, with few cancellations or verbal variants from DP. Revision in subsequent editions was very light; there were only three verbal variants, all unique to 1880, a volume of selections.
