ABSTRACT

As E. B. Murray notes in BSM iv, pt II, 339, the theme of this complete draft stanza, as well as its position in Nbk 14 following a draft of stanza 3 of the Dedication on p. 90 rev., suggests that it was originally intended as the Dedication's fourth stanza. The cancelled false start at the top of the page, ‘Then let me not with’, follows logically from the final line of stanza 3. There is a version of WA 268 on the same page in different ink, and a rougher hand, below.
