ABSTRACT

These lines are roughly written in ink on facing pages in Nbk 17 with the fuller draft on p. 141 rev. apparently done after that on p. 140b rev. Carlene Adamson finds verbal echoes and parallels in Epipsychidion 301–6, the Prologue to Hellas 80–3 and Hellas 428–9, 952–9 (BSM vi 32–3). However, the latter would suggest an autumn 1821 date that is not compatible with the likely date-range of this nbk. Given that these lines take the form of a dialogue, and that this nbk contains other fragmentary drafts associated with OT (see headnote to no. 344), it is possible that they relate to that play and therefore may date from c. 25–c. 30 August 1820.
