ABSTRACT

Anchoring or reporting the sports or participating in the broadcast of a live sporting event-as a performer or on the technical side-can be immensely satisfying. But no position in sportscasting brings a non-participant closer to the action than that of the play-by-play announcer. He or she is overlooking the arena or the fi eld, vividly describing all that goes into an unscripted passion play as it happens. As they do this they are in direct, immediate contact with the people most interested in the outcome of the proceedings, the fans.
