ABSTRACT
In terms of audience, nothing is more diverse than the universe of people who watch, follow, root, cheer, and listen to sports. The reasons are not hard to understand. First, fandom is a shared experience that families, friends, and even strangers in bars can get together and cheer. All the connection takes is someone in a similar jersey, or maybe even a clap or yell at that particular moment of a game where your team is scoring, causing a turnover, breaking your heart, or hoisting the trophy. Second, every team begins each season anew, with a chance to win. Granted, some teams seem to inherently have a better chance than others due to resources, players, or recruiting. Every team begins with a spotless record, and the story of their season is written in real time for all to see.
