ABSTRACT
From 1996 to 2005, the number of satellitedelivered programming networks increased from 145 to 565 (NCTA, 2007). Direct broadcast satelites (DBS) began to make serious inroads following the 1992 Cable Act. Then, the Telecommunications Act of 1996 also allowed telephone companies (telcos) to enter the market.
