ABSTRACT

Introduction very two years, the editors of this book struggle to decide which chapters to include. There are always more options than there is space

because new communication technologies develop almost daily. This chapter out-lines some of these technologies deemed important but not ready for a full chapter. The 15th edition of this book may cover these technologies in full chapters just as digital signage was once featured in an “Other New Technologies” chapter. Among the choices, two technologies stand out as exemplars of the newest technologies: wearable technologies and 3D printing

nologies is wearable technologies. While wearable technologies such as headphones have been around for some time, the current definition of wearable technologies includes five major areas: fitness and wellness, healthcare and medical, infotainment, military, and industrial (IHS, 2013). Furthermore, it must contain advanced circuitry, wireless connectivity and at least a minimal level of independent processing capability.” n the consumer market these technologies are often found in three areas: fitness, glasses, and smartwatches.
