Introduction to charities Charities may operate under different legal forms: not only as charitable trusts, but as charitable corporations, unincorporated associations and charitable incorporated organisations (CIOs). CIOs are a new legal form for a charity, introduced by the Charities Act 2011 , and intended to meet the particular administrative needs of charities.
