Introduction: how laws are made In previous chapters, we have looked at how one of the duties of the Legislature (Parliament) is to examine what the Executive (Government) is doing and to keep the Executive in check (‘checks and balances’ – see Chapter 5). Another main function of Parliament is making new laws (Bills in Parliament).
