ABSTRACT

This chapter provides the answers to the questions regarding physiological concomitants, IQ (intelligence quotient), social interaction, survival strategies, oppositional behaviour, primary and secondary social emotions. In Jake's case one can infer that he had some satisfaction and warm loving nurturance in his first year but this was delivered on an inconsistent basis and the child's perception of change made him fearful and anxious. Jake also had a considerable amount of frustration in his early life. However, he was most affected by his inability to predict when things would happen, whether he would be satisfied, or whether he would be frustrated. The chapter also examines Jo's dependency needs were at least partially catered for in childhood. But they were often dealt with on an inefficient and perhaps inconsistent basis. Jo may have made reasonable progress in reducing his instrumental dependence in his early years. He learnt to feed himself and dress himself.
