ABSTRACT
The concepts of news selection and newsworthiness were developed to problematize one of the central mysteries of news production and the news industry: Why and how do a limited number of events end up being covered by the news media? What determines the magnitude of the resources and ultimately the editorial space allocated to a particular story? What is the complex chemistry driving news production?
