ABSTRACT

As performers in a cultural dance group, these ageing Indonesian dancers represent both their culture of origin and their migrant community in Perth. At times, they have been rejected or ridiculed by their migrant community, especially when performing feminine dances. Nevertheless, by understanding the limitations of age and the sexual stereotypes associated with marriage migrants, these dancers have found ways of gaining limited acceptance as cultural performers and ways of performing acceptable femininities outside of the dance realm.
