ABSTRACT
An overview of Malaysia There are over 28.4 million people in Malaysia and it is economically one of the most successful nations in the Asia-Pacific region. The US Department of Agriculture (USDA 2011), reports that in 2010, about 35 per cent of Malaysians were below 15 years of age and 3.7 per cent above 65 years old; the median age in the country was 26.5 years. Over 60 per cent of the population consists of middleincome earners and there are plans to make Malaysians high income earners by the year 2020. The per capita income of Malaysians according to the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada (2011) will increase from US$6900 in 2009 to US$9481 by the end of 2012.
