ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on how the various works in the collection engage in the production of affective maps and a resignification of the cityscape. The key location under consideration in the chapter, and the focal point of all of the works composing Montevideo, the capital city of Uruguay. The specific buildings and venues represented in Mackern's works stem, for the most part, from this period of Montevideo's history and development: they are the iconic buildings and construction projects undertaken in the first half of the twentieth century and conceived of as emblematic of Montevideo's modernity and progress. It works to be analyzes in 24horas, whose title is located towards the bottom left of the screen, but whose line links to the top of the screen, pointing towards central Montevideo. The chapter examines Graffiti, is located farther to the left of the screen in a link pointing upwards, towards the city centre.
