ABSTRACT

Hong Kong is a former British Colony (which remained under British administration for 150 years) which became a Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China (HKSAR) on 1 July 1997. The region is currently under a ‘one country, two system policy’ which means its constitution, basic law and existing legal frameworks will remain in place for the next 50 years. As a result, Hong Kong enjoys a large degree of autonomy.
