ABSTRACT

Placing children at the centre of the formative assessment cycle (Figure 15.1) draws attention to their pivotal role in the way learning is conceived in this book. Learners are in any case responsible for learning, but whether they take responsibility for it depends on their participation in the decisions represented by the two-headed arrows in Figure 15.1. The inward pointing arrows indicate that the children are the subject of the teachers’ decisions about goals, evidence, interpretation and so on. The outward pointing arrows indicate the children’s role in all these decisions.
