ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book reveals developing countries are secondary and have considerably less power in the context of Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD) because they are reliant on the developed countries. A sustainable forest ecosystem is a system of vegetation and animals that can naturally support itself without any human interference. While market utilization is riddled with problems when it comes to solving environmental problems, markets can be used in a very useful way to protect forests through the certification of sustainable forest management. The book explores REDD suffers from two fundamental problems: governance and systemic problems. Many of the governance issues have been raised by researchers as the fundamental problems affecting the ability of REDD projects to be successful. Any program like REDD will ultimately fail without fundamental changes in market economy and dependence on fossil fuels.
