ABSTRACT

By statute and district policy, the principal is required to evaluate teachers. There is value to both supervision and teacher evaluation, and both need to be included in the overall effort to help teachers improve their instructional practices, to move toward increased student learning, and to realize the goals set forth in school improvement plans. Supervision and teacher evaluation do not need to be an either or proposition-both supervision and teacher evaluation can coexist, and both of these processes can complement each other. Instructional supervision and teacher evaluation are really about assessing what teachers do in classrooms and the results of these efforts.
