ABSTRACT

In Chapter 2, we explored the intricacies involved with being in full control of words. The first question that might pop into your head is should we even teach vocabulary explicitly? If the body of knowledge is so complex, are we, given the time that we have available to us and the amount of material that we have to cover, just wasting our time? The answer is a very resounding “No!” Research very clearly supports the value of properly structured direct vocabulary instruction.
