ABSTRACT

One of the fundamental purposes of forest school is to build children’s confidence, selfesteem and independence in a challenging, but exciting space. For this to happen the children need to feel comfortable and secure, and in turn, for this to take place, they need to know they have the approval of all the people around them, including their own parents. If a child feels that their family aren’t convinced about the benefits of outdoor learning then it is likely the child him/herself will be unsure. Likewise, if the parent is concerned their child will get wet, cold and muddy then the child too will be worried.
