ABSTRACT

The term forest school is now commonplace across early years settings and schools in both the UK and further afield. From its early UK beginnings in a Somerset college it has grown into a nationwide provision for children and students in all areas of education. Qualifications are offered by various providers to instil skills and confidence into the workforce and an increasing number of diverse settings are now looking at how forest school can enhance the provision they offer. Forest schools are running in rural and urban areas with equal success, and what was once a rather daunting prospect for parents is now far more accepted, with fewer obvious concerns and anxieties.
