ABSTRACT

The recession identified the contracted boundaries of the profession. Where architects used to do entire pieces of building projects and programs, now a large part of this work is done by outside consultants (engineers and construction managers). Additionally we have limited the amount of work available to us by restricting our engagement with our clients. Creating a building solution to a problem has limited our availability to engage with our client beyond building. Architecture 2.0 limited the amount of work available to the architect, and we worked in smaller and smaller silos. Arch3.0 focuses on expanding our opportunities by recognizing and leveraging our design-solving skills. Arch3.0 recognizes that we have expertise that expands beyond building and facilitates our engagement into a larger, trusted-adviser role with our clients through social networks and understanding beyond buildings.
