ABSTRACT

Assessments play an important role in the education of students with disabilities. Screening is the process of evaluating students to determine who is eligible for special education. Diagnostic assessment is a formal process carried out by the team to assess the needs and strengths of an individual student; the diagnostic assessment is a cornerstone of the IEP. This chapter is concerned with classroom assessment as it is connected to student learning, using a model here termed individualized curriculum based assessment. The specific standards for such an assessment are shown in Figure 10.1 (p.136) and serve to organize the rest of this chapter.
