ABSTRACT

Technology is advancing at a pace faster than the world has ever known. If you have any doubt about the explosion of technology, log on to the Internet. On the World Wide Web (WWW) you’ll find such things as NASA’s description of its latest space mission, complete with video clips. Had you been logged on to the America’s Cup home page in 1996, you would have seen pictures of a sinking racing sloop less than 24 hours after the mishap occurred. The 1998 Winter Olympics’ home page gave the results of many events long before they were broadcast on tape-delay in the United States. Notices about college courses are broadcast over a satellite system regularly, providing access to potential students in more than a quarter of the world’s northern hemisphere.
