Had you been logged on to the America’s Cup home page in 1996, you would have seen pictures of a sinking racing sloop less than 24 hours after the mishap occurred. The 1998 Winter Olympics’ home page gave the results of many events long before they were broadcast on tape-delay in the United States. Notices about college courses are broadcast over a satellite system regularly, providing access to potential students in more than a quarter of the world’s northern hemisphere.
