ABSTRACT

My interest in teaching started at an early age but my father discouraged me from entering the field when I enrolled in college. After two years of trying other majors, I finally insisted that I be allowed to major in elementary education. I received my B.S. and then taught as an adjunct professor in local colleges while pursuing a master's degree in mathematics. Quite unexpectedly, I was asked to fill a sabbatical position at Benjamin Franklin High School. I never really knew how much fun teaching could be until I discovered the strong desire to help adolescents answer their own favorite question: "When am I ever going to use this?" In order to continue teaching at the secondary level, I again returned to college to complete the secondary certification requirements.
